Information We Collect
Oslo Weather collects minimal data necessary to provide accurate weather forecasts. When you use our app, we may collect: (a) location data (with your permission) to provide localized weather information; (b) device information such as operating system version and device model for analytics and crash reporting; (c) app usage data to improve our services.
Location Permission Usage
Oslo Weather requests access to your device's location to provide accurate, hyperlocal weather forecasts. Location data is used solely to determine your current position and fetch the relevant weather data. You can grant or revoke location permission at any time through your device settings. If you decline location access, you can still manually search for any city to get its weather forecast.
Weather API Usage
Oslo Weather uses the Open-Meteo API to fetch weather data. The Open-Meteo API is a free, open-source weather API that does not require an API key. Your IP address may be transmitted to Open-Meteo's servers as part of standard HTTP requests, but no personal identifiers are shared. We do not sell or share your data with any weather data provider beyond what is necessary to deliver the forecast.
Analytics and Crash Reporting
We use Firebase Crashlytics to monitor app stability and diagnose crashes. This service collects anonymized crash data including device type, operating system version, and the time of the crash. This data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify individual users.
Notification Permissions
If you grant notification permission, Oslo Weather may send you daily weather forecast notifications at a time you choose. These notifications are generated locally on your device and no personal data is transmitted to external servers for this feature. You can disable notifications at any time through your device settings or within the app.
Cookies and Local Storage
Oslo Weather uses local storage (SharedPreferences on Android) to save your preferences, such as your selected cities, temperature units, and theme preference (light/dark/system). We do not use cookies or any form of tracking across websites. All data stored locally remains on your device and is never transmitted to our servers.
Third-Party Services
Oslo Weather integrates with the following third-party services: (a) Open-Meteo — for weather forecast data; (b) Firebase Crashlytics by Google — for crash reporting and app stability monitoring; (c) Open-Meteo Geocoding API — for converting city names to coordinates (if enabled). Each third-party service operates under its own privacy policy.
Data Retention Policy
Oslo Weather does not maintain backend servers or databases. All user preferences and cached weather data are stored locally on your device and are retained until you clear the app's data or uninstall the application. Crash reports are retained by Firebase Crashlytics in accordance with their data retention policies. No personal data is stored on our servers as we operate entirely client-side.
Your Rights
You have the right to: (a) access any personal data we hold about you (note: we store minimal data locally); (b) request correction or deletion of your data by clearing app data or uninstalling the application; (c) withdraw consent for location or notification permissions at any time via device settings; (d) opt out of analytics collection where applicable. Children's Privacy
Oslo Weather does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. The app is designed for general audiences and does not target children. We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify users of any material changes by updating the policy within the app and revising the 'Last updated' date at the top of this page.
